The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA), which came into effect in British Columbia in 1993, provides specific information and privacy rights regarding information that is collected or controlled by public bodies in B.C.  All requests under the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act for access to Saanich Police records must be made through the Saanich Police Information & Privacy Coordinator.

The Act essentially gives an applicant the right to access information held by a public body as it pertains to the person applying for the informationt. Remember, in the absence of either written consent or a Court Order, the Saanich Police cannot release information personal to any other individuals.

The application process is quite simple and the form is easy to complete. You can either print off a copy of the APPLICATION FOR DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION (PDF 19KB) or  an application form is available at the Front Desk of the Saanich Police 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Complete the form and bring it to the Saanich Police department in person. At least one piece of identification must be shown at the time of submission. Requests will NOT be accepted by phone or email. Out of town requests must be accompanied by a photocopy of photo identification with current address.
