Crimes against children, especially of a sexual nature, are particularly abhorrent. The Saanich Police recognized this some years ago and committed the resources to employ three full time detective constables who specialize in resolving offences against children. These investigators have specific training in the art of interviewing children and preparing extremely detailed cases to take to prosecution. Some notable successes have been achieved by this team. This team deals with all types of allegations including sexual and physical assaults against children as well as historical investigations. The team provides significant leadership in the conduct of these types of investigations and have been happy to share their expertise with outside agencies since its inception.

The Child Abuse Team is a fundamental component of the Detective Division's Family Protection Unit.
