Impaired Times Three

spacer

Three separate impaired drivers were pulled out of their vehicles last night, after crashing off road.

The first came in at 10:30pm.  A 27 year old woman found herself trapped inside her 2002 Mazda Protégé suspended over a culvert at Interurban and Quayle Rd.  She was not injured and was successfully removed from her car.  That was not the end of her night though because shortly after getting safely to the roadside, she found herself under arrest for impaired driving.  A breath test revealed she had a blood alcohol level almost three times the legal limit.

A short time later, at around 11pm, a 46 year old Westshore man found himself in a very similar situation.  While backing down a driveway on Hector Rd, the man drove his 1996 Saturn into the ditch, high centering it on a large boulder.  He was uninjured but as with the woman, his night was not over.  He too was arrested for impaired driving but refused to provide a breath sample.  He now faces charges of Impaired Driving and Refusal.

And then at 30 minutes past midnight, a 20 year old Saanich man drove his 1991 Ford truck off the road at Cook St and Maplewood Drive.  He drove through a guard rail and onto a neighbours lawn, where he stopped.  He sustained some minor injuries in his crash, and like the other two drivers, he was found to be impaired.  His blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.

All three crashes stand as a reminder that drunk drivers are still on our roads.  Make the responsible choice and DON’T drink and drive.
