The Saanich Police Street Crime Unit conducted a search warrant yesterday, January 26th, at a home in the 4200 block of Quadra St. They were following up on information that suggested the home contained some stolen property from nearby break and enters and theft from autos.
Just after 8:30pm last night, officers entered the home and arrested one man inside. Four other occupants were home but are not believed to be connected to the crimes. Officers then did a thorough search of the house and found numerous items believed to be stolen.
One man, a 33 year old Saanich man, who was found at the home, has been charged with two counts of Break and Enter, and five counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. He was held in police custody over night and will be appearing in provincial court this afternoon. This man is well known to police and has a history of property related offences including break and enter, theft, robbery and possession of stolen property.
Officers are now in the process of reviewing all the items found and trying to link them back to their rightful owners. Some of the property, including cheque books and computer equipment, have been connected with a break and enter in the 700 block of Rogers Ave and in the 1000 block of Beckwith. Unfortunately though, the majority of the property is still unaccounted for.
We believe that most of the property comes from crimes committed in the last four to six weeks and in the Quadra, Lakehill, and Glanford areas of Saanich. Within the next few days we will be posting photographs of the items on our website. A snap shot of what we have recovered includes tools, electronics such as computers and TV's, jewelry, coins, backpacks and luggage.
Anyone who has had property stolen that may have been recovered, are asked to contact the Saanich Police at 250-475-4321.
