The Regional Crime Unit has identified the suspect arrested Friday afternoon when he was interrupted committing a residential break and enter as 44 year old Dale Duncan RIMMER.

RIMMER was in the process of stealing items from a home in the 4100 block of Quadra Street when he was interrupted by the returning homeowner.  RIMMER fled on a bicycle and was located a short distance away by two responding RCU officers.  RIMMER was taken into police custody without incident and was arrested within 6 minutes of the 9-1-1 call to police.

RIMMER has been identified by the Regional Crime Unit as a prolific offender and a priority target, based in part on his extensive criminal record.  He has a criminal record dating back to 1982, with 36 previous convictions for property crimes, including 23 convictions for break and enter.

RIMMER has been remanded in custody over the weekend by a Justice of the Peace, and will be appearing in Provincial Court on Monday, Feb. 8.

The Regional Crime Unit is continuing the investigation in an attempt to identify additional break-ins which RIMMER may be responsible for.

The Regional Crime Unit is an integrated unit comprised of 9 police officers from the Saanich Police Department, Oak Bay Police Department, the Central Saanich Police Service, West Shore Detachment RCMP, as well as provincial RCMP.  Since February of 2008 the Regional Crime Unit has been pursuing its mandate of proactively targeting the region's most prolific criminal offenders.
