A 48 year old Victoria man is appearing in BC Provincial Court today on charges stemming from a domestic dispute.
It started at around 5:55pm hours on Sunday, January 24th. The 48 year old man was with his 7 year old daughter, in his truck. The man, who is separating from his wife, spotted her car parked at a home in the 500 block of Ker Ave. He stopped and went up to the house, knocking on the door. When it was opened, the man allegedly forced his way inside and confronted his 37 year old wife (mother of their 7 year old daughter) and a 30 year old man.
The 48 year old man eventually left the house and returned to his truck where his 7 year old daughter was still seated. The man’s wife followed and attempted to remove their daughter from the truck. It appears that there was a struggle involving the three of them in the truck as the woman tried to get the 7 year old out.
The woman continued to make attempts to remove her daughter from the truck and while doing so, the 48 year old man started to drive away. The woman was dragged down the roadway, while several neighbours, including the 30 year old man, intervened.
The woman was dragged a short distance before tumbling away from the truck.
The truck was quickly stopped when the keys were pulled from the ignition by the 30 year old man. Additionally, a neighbour pulled their car in front of the truck to possibly prevent it from driving away.
A further confrontation broke out, involving the driver and the 30 year old man, but was quickly defused as police arrived on scene.
Emergency personnel attended to the woman who suffered minor injuries. She was taken to hospital for a complete assessment. Her 7 year old daughter was not injured.
The 48 year old man was arrested and held over night to appear before the Courts today, January 25th. Saanich Police have proposed charges of Assault, Forcible Entry and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
The Saanich Police Family Protection Unit is working closely with investigators of this file, as well as with several outside agencies including the Ministry for Children and Family Development. All measures are being taken to further protect and support the 7 year old girl and her mother.
