Three Vehicle Crash on Blenkinsop

spacer

A 47 year old Sidney man remains in hospital with serious injuries after a crash last night on Blenkinsop Road.  It happened at around 8:40pm Sunday night, January 24th.  The Sidney man was driving his 2005 brown Ford Escape, heading south on Blenkinsop.  A 32 year old Victoria woman was in his SUV as well.

At the same time, a 45 year old Saanich man, with his 10 year old son, was driving his 2002 black Dodge Dakota north on Blenkinsop.  Following behind this Dakota was a 2004 grey Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 25 year old Saanich man.

In the 3800 block of Blenkinsop Road, the 47 year old Sidney man found himself in medical distress.  The Escape he was driving crossed over into the oncoming lanes just as the Dakota and Malibu approached.

The driver of the Dakota was able to swerve mostly out of the way, getting side swiped before ending up in the ditch.  This driver and his son were not injured.

The Malibu, following behind the Dakota, was not able to avoid the Escape in time though and a head on crash occurred.  The Malibu driver sustained minor injuries which were treated at the hospital.  He was later released.

The passenger in the Escape was uninjured but the 47 year old driver was not so lucky.  He sustained significant injuries and is still in hospital.

Saanich Police Collision Reconstructionists attended to the scene to thoroughly document it.  At this time it appears that the medical distress the Escape’s driver suffered, led to the crash.  Charges are not being considered at this time.
