On Friday January 8th at approximately 5 p.m, Saanich Police were alerted to an emergency relationship violence situation just outside a townhouse complex in the 3000 block of Harriet Road.

A 9-1-1 caller reported to police that there was a woman screaming and that an unknown man who did not live there was pulling her into her townhouse with his hand covering her mouth.

Police officers arrived immediately and found the 48 year old woman inside her home, with her wrists behind her back and bound by handcuffs.  Police arrested her estranged husband, a 50 year old Victoria man who moved here from Montreal approximately two months ago.

Police seized a number of items of evidence at the scene supporting charges of forcible confinement and attempted kidnapping.  The arrested man was remanded in custody for the weekend and will be appearing on Monday January 11th in Victoria Provincial Court.  He has no previous criminal record.

The woman was not injured and she is very appreciative for the 9-1-1 caller who contacted police.
