Do you need a Criminal Record Check for a job or volunteer position you are applying for?

Are you an employer or organization wishing to check the background of potential workers?

Do you live in Saanich or is your non-profit agency located in Saanich?

If you answered Yes to the above then you will need to see us, at the Saanich Police.  To help you through this process, here is some helpful information you should be aware of.

*You must attend in person to the front counter of the department.  We are located at 760 Vernon Ave, and we are open 24/7/365.

*You will fill out a Criminal History Consent Form.  This won’t take long.

*You will need to provide the police officer with two pieces of identification.  One must have a photograph of you on it – ie. your driver’s licence, provincial ID, passport.  This identification will be photocopied by the officer and retained with your form.

*If you need the Criminal Record Check for a volunteer position with a non-profit agency, you will require a letter from the organization, requesting the check be done for you.  This letter must be on official letterhead and have your name on it.

*The cost for Criminal Record Checks is $50.  This fee is waived for non-profit agency requests.  Payment must be made at the time of the request and can be cash, cheque or debit.

*If you require a check beyond a standard name search – for a Pardon application, for employment with a security company, for Immigration or Passports, or if you do not have photo ID – you will need to have fingerprints taken.  There is a fee of $50 for this.

Fingerprints are taken Monday through Friday during business hours.

*Your Criminal Record Check will take about one week to process.  You will be required to pick it up from the department.  Remember to bring a piece of identification with you.

What do the results mean?

Your completed Criminal Record Check will come back with four boxes ticked off.  The two choices for each box are “None Located” or “May or May Not Exist”.

* Box One refers to criminal convictions.

* Box Two refers to outstanding criminal charges.  Charges where a final court decision has not yet been made.

* Box Three refers to any criminal charges, regardless of their outcome in the courts.

* Box Four refers to any negative police contact.

If you have any questions about obtaining a Criminal Record Check or about the results of one you have received back, please call 250-475-4321 and ask for voice mail box 5012.

Driving Records

A Criminal Record Check only addresses Criminal Code offences.  If you are looking for information about you or a potential employee’s driving history, you will have to contact ICBC and request a driving abstract.
