The Forensic Identification Section, working with criminal investigators, provides a fundamental component to the investigation and solution of crime in Saanich. 

Scientific examination of crime scenes can provide the essential physical evidence to prosecute an offender.

Photography plays a substantial role in crime scene investigation, and a variety of light sources and photographic techniques are used to capture images at crime scenes.

Members of the Forensic Identification Section have specialized training in the following areas:

  • Examination of scenes;
  • Recording and collecting exhibits; and
  • Processing exhibits for fingerprints, DNA, hair, fibers, and other evidence.

Fingerprints, hair, fibers and photographic enhancement are some of the tools of this vital service.
