Saanich Community Justice Initiatives is an innovative out-of-court process for dealing with an offence. It is an alternative to the traditional justice system and is based on the principles and practices of Restorative Justice. The victim is central to the process, the accused is held accountable for their behaviour, the community perspective is included, and input from all affected parties is encouraged.

The program has three models:

  1. Community Conferencing;

  2. Victim/Offender Resolution Meeting; and

  3. Diversion.

Who is eligible?

  • Those who could be charged for an offence by the Saanich Police;

  • Those who acknowledge and take full responsibility for their actions;

  • Those who are willing to comply with the conditions of a Community Justice Agreement; and

  • Cases are referred to Saanich Community Justice Initiatives by the Saanich Police and Crown Counsel.
