Getting Started with Block Watch

Steps for Block Organization

  1. Attend a Block Watch information session.  Next sessions to be held:

    February 19, March 19, April 16, May 21, June 18, September 17, October 15, November 19

  2. Complete Application & Criminal Record Check applications - (NO canvassing until application is accepted).

  3. When your application is accepted, meet with the Area Coordinator or Block Watch Office representative and receive your canvassing package.

  4. Canvass your neighbours, follow the guidelines provided from your meeting with the Area Coordinator or Block Watch Office.

  5. Complete a Map and Participant List (50% participation required).

  6. All participants complete engraving.

  7. Call Block Watch Office for first Block Watch Meeting (provide 10-12 days notice).

  8. First meeting:

    (i) Hosted by Block Captain/Co-Captain;

    (ii) Distribute maps;Distribute certificates and BW decals to those who have completed engraving.

    (ii) Police Officer will attend, and show 20 min Block Watch Video - "Crime Proofing It's Your Choice", and answer questions.

    (iv) After the first meeting the Block Captain's main task is to act as communication link between participants and the Area Coordinator, and/or the Block Watch Office, as outlined on the task description.

The Block Watch program requires that blocks hold annual meetings to remain active in the program.
