Together Against Graffiti
T.A.G. Program

The T.A.G. program incorporates a three pronged approach: Eradication, Education, and Enforcement. These three branches harmonize to create a well rounded approach that addresses all of the strategies that have proven effective in combating graffiti. The T.A.G. program also focuses on the idea that graffiti is a community issue that requires a community solution.

Eradication is of prime importance in ridding our community of unsightly graffiti. Research done across North America shows definitively that the most effective method of deterring graffiti is quick and consistent cleaning and/or removal. This usually entails removing the graffiti with 24 hours. One of the main reasons “taggers” vandalize structures is to have their work seen. It is our intention, by quickly removing the "art", to frustrate and discourage the "artist".

Cst. Campbell and student volunteers

It is the vision of quick and consistent eradication that inspired the Saanich police TAG Program which now enjoys the assistance of students from across the Municipality of Saanich.

To date approximately 160 student volunteers have participated in the T.A.G. Program. These students are from Claremont, Lambrick, and Mt. Doug Schools.

The idea of combating graffiti was well received and the youths were very enthusiastic about volunteering to help with the T.A.G. program. The Saanich Police envision more schools coming on board in the near future and with the increase in manpower graffiti can be eradicated across Saanich even quicker.
