To begin the application process candidates who believe they meet
the minimum standards should submit:
- Proof of Canadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant Status;
- A covering letter;
- A current colour passport photo;
- A formal resume outlining their Education, Work experience, References,
and Personal data;
- Copies of any training courses completed with home department;
- Two letters of reference:
(i)
One from a serving police officer commenting on your abilities;
(ii)
The second letter can be from another police officer or
a person in your community;
- A recent performance appraisal: and
- The Saanich Police does not participate in the Provincial Nominee Program.
Once it has been determined that candidates meet the minimum requirements a recruiting file will be is established and the condidate will be contacted by the recruiting office.
Application Process
- Candidates will be required to write the Saanich Police Recruit entrance
exam and obtain a pass mark of 70%.
- Candidates will be required to complete the P.O.P.A.T.
(Police Officers Physical Abilities Test) in a maximum of four
minutes and fifteen seconds.
- Candidates will be interviewed by the Staff Development Sergeant.
- Candidates will attend an Assessment Centre hosted by the Justice
Institute of British Columbia for a one day assessment at their
own expense.
- Candidates will be required to complete a Computer
Voice Stress Analyzer Test.
- The candidate will be interviewed by a Staff Development panel.
- Reference and background investigations will be conducted on the
candidate. These investigations may explore sensitive or confidential
aspects of the candidates personal life.
- Upon the recommendation of the Staff Development Division, candidates
will be interviewed by the Chief or Deputy Chief Constable.
- Recommendations of the Chief Constable and the Staff Developement
Inspector will be considered for approval by the Police Board.
- A medical examination of the candidate will be conducted prior
to appointment, by a licensed physician as selected by the department.
- Successful candidates will be required to attend and successfully
complete the Justice Institute Block I Police Recruit training (approximately 12 weeks).
Candidates will then complete Block II field training (approximately 13 weeks) with the Saanich
Police Department. Upon completion of Block II and an assessment of
performance, the candidate may be required to attend Block III training (approximately 8 weeks)
at the Justice Institute. In some cases the Staff Developement
Section may apply to Police Services to obtain approval for candidates
to be exempted from Block III training. Exemption status
is determined on a case by case basis.
