LETTER FROM THE 2008 POLICE CAMP DIRECTOR
It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Greater Victoria Police Camp for 2008. Over eight days in March 2008, 50 students will be involved in daily class room lectures ranging from basic law to forensic science, daily physical training, day and night simulations and drill instruction. As students build relationships with each other in a team based environment, they also make long term connections with members of various police departments.
The Greater Victoria Police Camp is staffed by 21 full time staff, made up of police officers, from Saanich Police, Victoria Police, Oak Bay Police, Central Saanich Police, West Shore RCMP and Shawnigan Lake RCMP. In addition to the full time staff, the Greater Victoria Police Camp involves over 125 volunteer police, reserve police and school staff assist with the camp.
Applications are open to grade 10, 11 and 12 students and these packages can be obtained at their respective school. Students who apply must attend school full time and who are in good health. Applications must be complete in full with a resume.
All applicants are required to successfully complete a criminal record check and undergo a special interview process prior to being selection. If selected, students will also be required to attend and complete a mandatory physical assessment test, and orientation session.
The fifty students selected from the lower Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands will be apart of a once in a life time opportunity to experience training in a specially modified Justice Institute of BC police academy.
Since the inception of this program, we have had the opportunity to watch a number of students not only enjoy the experience of the Greater Victoria Police Camp, but grow as people and leaders within their school and community at large. The skills and memories gained in this eight day program often set the stage for ongoing success for these up and coming community leaders.
We look forward to your application, which can be obtained and submitted at your school. This year will prove to be another exciting and successful opportunity for the successful applicants!
Sincerely,
CST. Kim Basi
